Baseball, Softball, Soccer Sign-Ups

It’s time to register your child or children for spring baseball, softball, and soccer! To download the PDF forms, please click on the links below. When sending in forms to Mr. Knauer at school, please keep baseball/softball papers in separate envelopes from soccer papers, with separate checks in each envelope. That way we can easily organize the different sports. Registration deadline is March 11th. Thank you!

Spring Soccer 2016

Spring Soccer Schedule

GEAR Soccer starts TODAY! The Hanover field is still too muddy, so today’s practice will be in the Elizabeth Municipal Gym (formerly Highland West). Hopefully conditions will be good enough to play at the Hanover field next Sunday. K-2nd will practice from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, and 3rd-5th will practice from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Please make sure your child has shin guards and clean gym shoes. We should have t-shirts by the second practice. Here is the schedule for the 2015 spring season (always 2:00 pm for younger kids, 3:00 pm for older kids, unless noted otherwise):

March 22nd—practice (Elizabeth gym)
March 29th—practice (Hanover field?)
April 5th—NO practice, Easter Sunday
April 12th—practice (Hanover field?)
April 19th—game at Hanover
April 25th (Saturday, 10:00 AM)—game at Stockton, only for grades 3rd-5th
April 26th—game at Hanover, 2:00 pm, only for grades K-2nd
May 3rd—game at Hanover, 2:00 younger kids, 3:00 older kids (older kids will play Stockton)

May 17th is a possibility if we need to reschedule a game. I probably wouldn’t schedule anything May 10th because of Mother’s Day.

Sign-Ups!

GEAR is offering more opportunities than ever for youth this spring and summer! Registrations for baseball, softball, and soccer will take place the next two Saturday mornings (Feb. 14 and 21) in both Elizabeth and Hanover Gyms from 9:00-12:00. Forms can be filled out then or returned to Mr. Knauer at school. All forms and money are due by March 13th. Soccer season will start in late March, softball in early May, and baseball in late May. If you can’t make it to sign-ups, just print off the forms (see links below) and send them in to school by March 13th.

Also, we’re trying something brand new:  Youth Dance! But we need your feedback so we know how many classes to offer. If you’re interested, please print the survey below and return it to Mr. Knauer by March 1st for consideration. Thank you!

GEAR Soccer Survey

GEAR’s first soccer season ended yesterday on a beautiful day. Thanks so much to all the children and parents who participated! And special thanks to our coaches and referees for volunteering their time to help the kids improve. It seemed to be a great learning experience and hopefully lots of fun!

Since this was our first year doing soccer, no doubt there are ways we can improve. We welcome your feedback in the poll below. If your child didn’t play this year but might want to play next year, feel free to vote as well! There is also a spot in the poll where you can write in suggestions.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks again for a great season, and we hope to do it again next year!

GEAR Soccer Update

Thanks so much to the parents who signed their kids up for soccer! I’m excited about the soccer season, and I hope your kids are as well!

And I received great news this week . . . a generous Hanover resident offered to buy sock/shin guards for ALL the kids!! These are tall socks with the shin guard built into the sock. So you won’t need to buy socks OR shin guards for your kids! Huge thanks to that wonderful donor!

Due to the lower-than-expected number of soccer kids, we had to group the kids into two age groups instead of three. This means we’ll have one group with K-2nd graders and one group with 3rd-5th graders. I don’t anticipate this being a problem, because coaches will emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship, and rough play will be discouraged. Each group will have two teams. Here is an updated schedule:

All practices and games are Sunday afternoons at Hanover Park District soccer fields.

Practices: September 14, 21, 28
K-2nd: 2:00 to 2:45
3rd-5th: 3:00 to 3:45

Games: October 5, 19, 26 (possibly going into early November if weather holds and we need to reschedule an October game). Please note: No game on the 12th.

K-2nd: 2:00 to 2:45
3rd-5th: 3:00 to 3:45

If a practice or game needs to be cancelled due to weather, I (Erin) will try to send out mass emails and mass texts. You can also look for updates on the GEAR Soccer Facebook group page. Request to join the group and I will add you.

At the first practice on Sept. 14th, your kid(s) will find out which team they’re on, and receive their team shirt and sock/shin guards. Please make sure your kid(s) have appropriate shoes and a labeled water bottle if possible.

Leave a comment or send me a message if you have any questions!

Registration for GEAR Soccer!

It’s time to register for GEAR Soccer! The league is open to youth in the River Ridge school district who are in grades K thru 5th for fall of 2014.

Tentative schedule (subject to change):

Sunday afternoons at Hanover soccer fields
Practices: September 14, 21, 28
Games: October 5, 19, 26 (possibly going into early November if weather holds)

Soccer league goals are to teach skills, work as a team, and have fun. Spectators, parents, coaches, and players are to exhibit good sportsmanship at all times. Use of profanity or unsportsmanlike language will not be tolerated. Rough play will be penalized.

If you would like to volunteer to be a coach or referee, please contact GEAR via our Contact Form. Let us know your name, your email, your cell phone number, whether you want to be a coach or ref, and which age group(s) you prefer to work with. All coaches will need to be approved via background checks.

GEAR Soccer Survey

GEAR is researching the possibility of offering youth soccer this fall! But first we need your feedback so we can know an approximate number of kids interested. Right now we have some tentative plans (keep in mind that these could change):

Sunday afternoon practices and games at Hanover soccer fields:

Sept. 14th, 21st, 28th
Oct. 5th, 19th, 26th

K-1st : 1:30 to 2:00 (two 10-minute halves)
2nd-3rd: 2:15 to 3:00 (two 15-minute halves)
4th-5th: 3:15 to 4:00 (two 20-minute halves)
6th-8th: 4:15 to 5:15 (two 25-minute halves)

The age breakdown depends on how many students sign up in each group. It would help us a lot if you express your soccer interest via this poll. If your kid(s) would like to play soccer, indicate the grade he/she will be in this fall. Choose multiple grades for multiple kids. If you have two kids in the same grade, select the “other answer” option and write in the grade of the second kid. For now, we are only opening GEAR soccer to kids living in the River Ridge school district (home-schoolers welcome).

Thank you for your interest and for taking the time to vote! We’ll keep you updated on what happens!
